KATHMANDU. The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has decided to release Rs 11.75 billion for the second tranche of housing aid in all 14 affected districts most affected by the Gorkha Earthquake.
A meeting held on Wednesday decided to authorise the Central Project Implementation Unit under the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development to release the funds in the respective districts, said Bhisma Kumar Bhusal, deputy spokesperson for NRA.
Early this week, the Ministry of Finance had released Rs 7 billion of the total Rs 28 billion sought by the NRA for distributing the second tranche of private housing aid to the affected households.
The government has decided to provide Rs 300,000 as housing aid to all the households identified in the 14 districts in three instalments–Rs 50,000, Rs 150,000 and Rs 100,000.
“We are committed to providing the second instalment to all the eligible households who have completed the plinth level construction work of their houses after receiving the first instalment,” he said.
The NRA has requested the concerned authorities at the local level to mobilise necessary staff and technical teams to inspect the construction work and verify the eligible households to receive the second instalment of the aid. It has also requested the households to register their names for the second instalment after completing the construction of the foundation layer following the building standard.
The NRA in coordination with the non-governmental organisations started the distribution of the second instalment from last Wednesday to those households who have received the first instalment and successfully completed the construction of the foundation layer of their new house.
As of Thursday, 720 households from Gorkha, Nuwakot, Sindhuli and Makwanpur had received the second instalment amounting to Rs 150,000. Out of total 626,036 households registered for the housing aid from 14 districts, 549,536 have signed the tripartite agreement and of them 503,305 have received the aid.
