Experts have suggested Nepal to promote and implement “green economy” immediately to graduate to a developing country from least developed one.
At a two-day international seminar on Promoting the Implementation of Green Economy that kicked off here on Monday, experts from the fields of agriculture, tourism, energy sector and information and communication technology presented their papers in four thematic issues–organic agriculture, echo tourism, information dissemination through communications and technology and renewable energy on the first day.
Key policymakers, bankers, high rank officials, stakeholders and representatives from civil society were in attendance at the programme organised by Right Livelihood Foundation and SAPPROS-Nepal. Inaugurating the event, Agriculture Minister Haribol Prasad Gajurel stressed the need to make Nepal “green”.
Addressing the programme, founder of Hi-MIN solar in China Huang Ming said Nepal has a good fortune for solar technology, adding, “it is practical and sustainable for country like Nepal and this will brighten Nepal’s future.”
Another participant, Monika Griefahn, chair of the Right Livelihood Award Foundation board and a former member of the German Parliament, expressed hope that the seminar with the attendance of experts in sustainable development would bring out successful and practical solution for Nepal.
Defining the main objective of the programme, Shree Krishna Upadhyay, executive chairman of Support Activities for Poor Producers of Nepal (SAPPROS-Nepal) said: “This is a step to lead Nepal into self reliance and sustainable development after the looming crises, if we could work on our thematic issues.”
The majority of the participating experts shared Upadhyay’s views in stressing the need to focus on the four thematic issues and work accordingly to help Nepal graduate to the status of a developing country by 2022.
